FIGURED SPECIES

Figured species are absolutely the biggest attention getters when producing any products made from wood. Birdseye maple, curly maple, wormy maple, crotch walnut and crotch mahogany are a few at the top of the list. Beauty is absolutely personified in these species. MIXED SPECIES

Particular species are amazingly beautiful when combined. Figured maples mixed with either Cherry, Walnut or Mahogany have been favorites for hundreds of years.The chest at left demonstates the simple and pure design used by the Shakers and other early colonist. This chest is made from birdseye maple and cherry. The drawer bottoms are one piece white pine. Only hand dovetails and mortise and tenon joinery is used.

UNIQUE FURNITURE

Indeed, beautiful things do make you smile. This chest is made with only curly maple as the primary specie and white pine in the draw bottoms. Again, the design is very simple and pure. MONSTER FLOORBOARDS

Monster planks are flooboards that are very wide which have been created by live sawing very large logs. Monster planks can range from 12 to 30 in width and up to 24 to 30 feet in length. Monster Planks have the full range of character marks, ranging from clear to the very knotty planks that are the widest boards coming from the center of the tree.

DUTCHMAN REPAIRS

A Dutchman is a matching patch, a piece of good material used to replace a relatively small damaged area that has been cut out. In this case, a Dutchman can have a simple rectangle or square shape, or a Dutchman can be shaped like a dovetail when they are used to tie a large split back together.
