Plankmaker

About Us

Plankmaker's main focus is on four species of wood.

Plankmaker produces products from more than 20 different species of wood. However, the lead or dominant species are Siberian Larch, Western Douglas Fir, Eastern White Pine and Southern Heart Pine. Four types of products are produced in each of these species: wide plank flooring, hand hewn beams, cabinet stock and general millwork. Plankmaker`s main product brand is Heart Plank®. Whether you select reclaimed or old growth raw material, Plankmakers’ standards of premium quality and superior craftsmanship are always present. Plankmaker produces both solid and engineered wide plank flooring in most of these species up to 16″ wide and 16′ feet long or longer. Engineered floors come standard in 3/4″ (19mm) thickness with a 4mm or 5mm sawn wear layer. A variety of surface and edge treatments are possible with either type floor. These include square edged, bevel edged, brushed, sanded and hand-planed. All engineered floors can be nailed, glued or floated over radiant heat applications or other subfloors.

Our owner is Dewey Hudson. He has been designing and manufacturing unique flooring products since the early 1970s. He is one of the founders of the Reclaimed Wood Industry. His work has been recognized both in the United States and abroad by awards, publications, and patents. Dewey’s companies have been leaders in the Reclaimed Wood Industry for more than four decades. They grew from humble beginnings in the early 1970’s to an uncontested industry leader by 1995. In 1994, his companies successfully reclaimed 12,000,000 board feet of timbers and planks from the largest timber frame structure ever built, The Sears & Roebuck Complex in Chicago, Illinois, USA. These Reclaimed Heart Pine products were shipped all over the world and represented the largest reclamation project of its kind in the twentieth century.
