Live Sawing

Live sawn milling is the most efficient way to cut a log into flooring planks and it is a simpler milling method than others. Each plank is cut straight off of the log in one direction without changing the orientation of the log. Because at least a third of the cut is always quarter sawn, live sawn planks are also highly stable. Floors made of live sawn lumber are regarded as both cost-effective and environmentally friendly. They also produce wider boards than any other method of sawing. In the image above, the top half of the log is livesawn and the bottom half has been cut 50% as quartersawn. The top half of the log is clearly producing very wide widths. Live sawing is the method we use to produce our Monster Planks.
